Enabling Children To Reach Their Full Potential

DISCIPLINE

SCHOOL HOURS: PunCTUALITY

BE PUNCTUAL

In the morning, parents may drop their children just inside the school main gate. It is very important for parents to make sure that their children arrive on time for school so that the class teacher can start promptly at 8.00 A.M. Students who arrive late miss a valuable part of the subject being taught and also disrupt the rest of the class.

At the end of the school day, parents should wait outside the school gate for the students to be dismissed. There are no arrangements for care of children arriving before 7.30 A.M. Similarly, students have to be collected from school within 15 minutes of the end of the school day. Students will not be released into the care of anyone other than a parent, nanny or drivers who are known to the school unless prior written notification has been received. Anyone unknown to the school will be asked to prove their identity. Please note that once dismissed, parents must take responsibility for their own children.

All belongings should be clearly marked with the owner’s name. School bags, pencil cases, lunch boxes, etc. should also be similarly marked. Any articles found around the school are quickly returned to the rightful owner if named. Articles not named are put into the Lost Property Box. Please ensure that everything your child brings to school is clearly named. Students are not allowed to bring toys to school to play with. The school cannot accept responsibility for toys that are lost or damaged.

SCHOOL HOURS: Do's & DONT'S

THE AFEEL STUDENTS MUST:

  • Come to school prepared to work to the best of their abilities.
  • Complete homework assignments and hand them in punctually.
  • Show respect for the teachers, other members of the school staff and each other.
  • Show respect for school property such as books and equipment and also for the property of others.
  • Other student’s belongings must not be borrowed without permission.
  • Be punctual – this is a sign of respect.
  • Move calmly in school at all times – running in the corridors could be dangerous.

  • All litter must be placed in the bins

   THE AFEEL STUDENTS MUST NOT:

  • Use bad language or play rough games.
  • Bring walkmans, radios, mobile phones, computer games and other such diversions to school.
  • Chew gum in school.
  • Be in the classroom at any time without supervision.

Behaviour

Students are expected to behave well in school. Good behaviour is encouraged and praised. Parents are informed if there is a serious problem with their child’s behaviour so that together we can help the child’s overall performance.

DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES:

Our students are generally well behaved. However, when a classroom, school or playground rule is not followed or when class assignments are handed in incomplete or missing, students need to understand that some form of disciplinary action will be taken. It may consist of one or more of the following consequences:

  • A teacher/adult will talk to the student about his/her incorrect behaviour.
  • The student’s parent/guardian will be notified in the diary.
  • The student will be assigned to a work period during break time. This is known as ‘detention’.
  • Misbehaviour in the playground will first result in a ‘time-out’ which will require the student to stand against the wall or door in order to reflect upon his/her bad behaviour.
  • A meeting will be held between the teacher and the concerned parents.

If the student persists in breaking the rules often he will be sent to the Director. The Director will decide the consequences on an individual basis.

CLASS RULES

STUDENTS MUST:

  • Put their hand up to speak.
  • Work quietly.
  • Ask for permission to go to the toilet.
  • Wait for the teacher’s instructions.
  • Always do their own work.
  • Talk calmly, not shout and scream in the school premises.
  • Listen to the teacher.
  • Listen and respect each other.
  • Look after everything in the classroom.

LUNCHTIME RULES THAT STUDENTS NEED TO FOLLOW:

  • Wash their hands.
  • Stay seated while eating.
  • Not talk with their mouth full.
  • Bring and eat healthy, wholesome food.
  • Clear their place at the end of their lunch.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL:

If a student remains absent from class, a note must be written to the class teacher. In addition, parents are required to phone the school in the morning when they are aware their child won’t be attending class that day.
